Often called the Border Husky or Borsky, this hybrid blends the Border Collie, bred on the England-Scotland border for intelligence and agility, with the Arctic-bred Siberian Husky, prized for sled-pulling endurance. Each puppy can lean toward either parent, so looks and personality vary.
Border Husky at a glance
- Height 18 to 22 inches
- Weight 30 to 55 pounds
- Exercise 1 hour vigorous + 30 minutes mental work daily
- Lifespan 12 to 15 years
Looks
Lean and muscular, with a medium-to-long double coat that may be straight, wavy or silky, in solid, bicolor or merle patterns. Heterochromia, one blue eye and one brown, is common, giving a striking wolf-like gaze.

Brains and personality
Among the smartest hybrids, they learn fast and love puzzle toys, but the Husky’s stubborn streak means boundary testing. Consistent positive training, varied challenges and early socialization channel that intelligence. They bond deeply with family and other pets, but may herd or nip at children without guidance.
Exercise
Remarkable endurance from both parents: long runs, hikes and canicross suit them. Without enough exercise, they become destructive, restless or escape artists, so a securely fenced yard and solid recall are essential.

Grooming and diet
Brush two to three times a week, daily in spring and fall shedding seasons, with an undercoat rake. Bathe every two to three months to preserve coat oils. Feed high-quality protein and watch portions.
Health
Possible inherited issues include hip dysplasia, Collie eye anomaly, epilepsy and the MDR1 drug-sensitivity mutation. Genetic testing and routine joint and eye screening catch problems early.
