One, two, three. A little tan dog stands on its back legs, counts off on its fingers and drops into a bounce that has taken over millions of feeds. The dog gets all the attention. But the beat behind it has a fifty-year history, and the idea of a dancing Brazilian dog goes back a full decade before this clip existed.
How the meme spread
The video spread as a meme template. Template sites credit the original to a TikTok account called turon_49, which posted it in early February 2026. By March 30, 2026, a repost had passed one hundred thousand likes, and the counting dog started showing up in reactions to exams, bad days and plot twists.

The song: “Treme o Popozão”
The track is “Treme o Popozão” by MC Leléto, part of a style called funk carioca, or Brazilian funk.
- It started in the 1970s at huge dance parties in the poorer neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro.
- DJs there mixed in Miami bass, a fast, heavy sound from Florida, because many of them stopped in Miami on flights and came home with new records.
- In 1989, an album called “Funk Brasil” added Portuguese lyrics, and the scene grew into one of the biggest dance styles in the world.

Not the first Brazilian dancing dog
On February 5, 2016, a video was posted of a young boy in Brazil dancing next to what appeared to be a stray dog hopping on its back legs beside him. It was remixed with dozens of songs and became known as the Brazil Dog Dance.
The takeaway
Ten years later, the internet found a new one, dancing to the same kind of beat that has filled Rio’s dance floors for half a century.
