This policy explains what information is collected when you visit Weary Panda at https://wearypanda.com, how it is used, and the choices you have. Weary Panda is an animal blog and YouTube channel. You can read every page on this site without creating an account or giving us your name or email address.
Information we collect
We do not ask you for personal information to use this site. Comments are turned off, there are no user accounts for visitors, and our quizzes do not ask for your name or email. Quiz answers are checked in your browser and are not sent to us or stored.
Some information is collected automatically when you visit:
- Server logs. Like nearly every website, our web host records basic technical details for each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages people read, how they found the site and what kind of device they use. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location (city or country), device type and referring website. We use these reports only in summary form.
- Advertising. We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technology to show ads and to measure how they perform. More detail is in the advertising section below.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Weary Panda itself does not set cookies for visitors. The cookies you may receive on this site come from Google Analytics and Google AdSense.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, the site will still work normally, but the ads you see may be less relevant to you.
Advertising
Ads on this site are provided by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this website and to other websites. Google’s advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to show you ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can turn off personalized advertising from Google in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of personalized ads from many other ad companies at www.aboutads.info/choices. To learn more, read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
YouTube videos
Many articles include one of our YouTube videos. The video player does not load until you press play. Before that, the page shows a preview image, which in some articles comes from YouTube’s image server. When you press play, the video loads from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). From that point, YouTube and Google may collect information about how you watch the video, as described in the Google Privacy Policy.
How we use information
- To keep the site working, fast and secure.
- To see which articles and quizzes are useful, so we can improve them and decide what to write next.
- To show ads that pay for running the site and making the videos.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers named in this policy.
How long information is kept
Server logs are kept for a short time and then deleted by our host. Google Analytics keeps detailed data for no more than 14 months and then deletes it automatically. Google keeps advertising data according to its own privacy policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to object to or limit how it is used. This includes rights under the GDPR in the European Union and the United Kingdom and under privacy laws in California and other US states. Because we do not collect names, emails or accounts, we usually hold no information that identifies you. Most of the data described above is held by Google, and you can manage it through your Google account or the opt-out links above.
You can stop Google Analytics from collecting data about you on any website by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Children
Weary Panda is a general-audience website and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Links to other websites
Our articles sometimes link to other websites. We are not responsible for how those websites handle your information, so please read their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change how information is collected or used, we will update this page and the date at the top.
