A smart, loyal, energetic mix of two of the world's most popular breeds. Size, looks, temperament, exercise, grooming and health.

Mix two of the world’s most popular breeds and you get the Golden Shepherd: smart, energetic and loyal, perfect for active families. It isn’t recognized by major kennel clubs, but it started gaining fans in the 2000s among people who love the Shepherd’s brains and the Golden’s friendliness.

Golden Shepherd at a glance

Grooming and health

They shed, sometimes a lot. Brush weekly and more in shedding season, and keep up with nails, teeth and ears. Watch for hip dysplasia, eye problems and allergies.

The takeaway

Affectionate, quick to learn and eager to please. If you have the time and energy to match theirs, they’ll give you loyalty and love every day.
