Origin
Poochons first appeared in Australia in the late 1990s, when breeders crossed the friendly Bichon Frise with the smart Toy or Miniature Poodle to create a compact, low-shedding companion. Toy Poodle crosses run smaller, Miniature crosses larger.
Coat
The medium-length curly or wavy coat can be white, cream, apricot, red, black, brown or silver, often with a Poodle-like texture. Minimal shedding makes them a common suggestion for mild allergy sufferers, though reactions vary.
Personality
Affectionate and people-focused, Poochons shadow you around the house and greet guests with a wag. They inherit Poodle smarts and learn commands quickly. With daily walks and play they stay balanced; without it, they can get restless or vocal.
Training
Keep sessions to 10 to 15 minutes, reward with treats or praise, and mix in puzzle toys or simple agility. Early socialization curbs excessive barking and builds confidence with strangers and other pets.
Grooming and health
Brush at least three to four times a week to prevent mats, trim every four to six weeks, clean ears weekly, clip nails every one to two weeks and bathe monthly with a gentle shampoo. Health screening matters: watch for dental disease, patellar luxation, cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy.
